What is Enagic?

Enagic is a Japanese water filtration company that makes products that allow people to drink “healthier water”.

They have been around for a long time since 1974 which is a long time for an MLM company and suggests that they have popular products.

The Enagic machines produce something they call Kangen water which is hydrogen-rich and changes the body’s pH levels to a more alkaline state. There is some evidence that alkaline water is beneficial for our bodies.

Some of the claimed benefits include:

  • Weight loss
  • Reduced chance of getting cancer
  • Reduced chance of arthritis

What’s the deal with Enagic?

Enagic has a huge range of water filtration systems that produce healthier Enagic Kangen water.

They all do a similar job but are of different sizes to be more compact, more robust, fit to a sink etc.

By far the most popular is the Leveluk SD501 machine which costs $3,980 and makes up about 90% of global sales. The cheapest machine comes in at $1980 so is not exactly cheap.

On top of the water ionizer machines, Enagic produce UKON (turmeric ) supplements and teas which also offer a range of health benefits such as

  • Reduced risk of cancer
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Increase brain power
  • Lowered risk of heart disease
  • Clearer skin

There is a good range of Ukon products with prices form just $25 for UKON soap up to $1980 for the Ukon Sigma combo (Tea, supplements & soap).

How do you Make Money With Enagic?

As with any MLM, there are 2 basic ways to make money with Enagic.

  1. Sell the products to other people, making a small profit on each.
  2. Recruit people into your downline to sell products, and you receive a commission from their sales.

There are some good reasons to start with Enagic rather than alternative MLM companies.

  • No fees to become or stay as a partner
  • There are no monthly purchasing requirements (as there are with Pruvit for example)
  • No annual renewal
  • No time limits to make sales

Enagic Compensation Plan

There are various different types of commission that you can earn with the Enagic comp plan.

  • Direct Sales Commission
  • Override Commission
  • Educational Allowance
  • Monthly Incentive
  • Quarterly Incentive
  • Title Incentive
  • Global Leadership Incentive

You can see the full compensation plan here.

The short answer is that the more ‘direct sales’ you make, the more money you can make. This is the same as any MLM company where the real money comes if you can climb the ranks and have huge numbers of people working in your downline.

To reach the highest rank you need to sell 100 machines. This may not sound like the biggest number but don’t forget that you will be asking people to part with nearly $4000 for the standard machine.

You don’t need to sell them all yourself, people in your downline can contribute to the sales total too. So you are incentivised to help other people to make sales as well.

This is the standard approach for MLM’s so if you have researched a few this will all make sense. If not it can sound confusing which is what I think they want. They can sell the success stories whilst glossing over the fact that very few make any real money through this system.

Is Kangen Water a Pyramid Scheme? Is Enagic a Scam?

A pyramid scheme is defined as “a business model that pays its members when they recruit others rather than supplying products or services”.

A true pyramid scheme relies entirely on recruiting and doesn’t involve selling products. This is generally unsustainable and in most cases pyramid schemes are illegal.

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) can be legitimate and is a marketing strategy for the sale of products or services where the revenue of the MLM company is derived from a non-salaried workforce selling the company’s products/services, while the earnings of the participants are derived from a pyramid-shaped or binary compensation commission system (definition from Wikipedia).

As discussed above, you earn money from commissions of sales you make and a percentage of the sales the people you recruit make. The people you recruit are in your so-called “downline” so if you help them to sell better it will help you make more money!

Enagic counts as direct selling as it consists of two main business models: single-level marketing, in which a direct seller makes money by buying products from a parent organization and selling them directly to customers, and multi-level marketing (as described above).

They make it sound so easy to earn a few grand:

Usually, MLM s have an income disclosure statement online that explains how much people on each level make on average. I can’t find one anywhere for Enagic. This is a huge RED FLAG.

So, is Enagic a pyramid scheme?

No. there are plenty of real products to be sold so this is not a pyramid scheme.

Is Enagic a scam?

No

Is Enagic a good way to make money?

No. Just because it’s not an outright scam doesn’t mean it is a good opportunity to make money.

Enagic Pros and Cons

Enagic has a few things going for it:

Pros

No Membership Fees

No membership fees and you are not forced to buy products every month like with some other MLMs.

You need to find a sponsor and then purchase one of the machines to get started.

So your minimum start-up cost is $1980 for the basic machine but its more likely you will buy their best seller for $4k.

Accreditation

Enagic has decent accreditation in areas like quality control and environmental management. It has the Water Quality Association Gold Seal for product certification, is a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA). Enagic is a legit company.

Good for the Environment

I do like that having one of these machines may stop people buying endless plastic bottles of mineral water. Anything that reduces our reliance on plastic gets my support.

Established company

Enagic has been going since 1974 so they must be onto something and aren’t a fly by night scam company.

So that’s the good. what about the bad?

Cons

Price of Products

This is the big problem. Kangen Water may or may not be good for you but there is definitely a market for these type of machines.

The problem with MLM’s is that you generally end up roping in friends and family to buy the products. Do you feel happy trying to sell a machine that costs between 2k and $6k to your nearest and dearest?

How about after I tell you that can get a similar machine on Amazon for $500?

Check these out

(there are even some Enagic ones available on Amazon)

The same goes for the Turmeric products which are way more expensive than other very similar supplements.

Are there any health benefits?

There is no clear evidence to back up many of the claims. If this could stop cancer I am sure we would all have heard more about them by now!

It’s is even possible that there may be some side effects such as:

  • Deficient of certain minerals
  • Vomiting
  • Hand Tremors

MLMs Suck

PR Newswire shows that 73% of all people involved in MLM companies lose money or make no money. So three-quarters of people make nothing at all or even lose money. That’s not great!

Of the few that make money, most made less than $5,000 in a WHOLE YEAR. Is that the sort of salary you need to QUIT YOUR JOB?

Only 1 in 10 members of an MLM program earns more than $5,000 a year! Some of them make a LOT more. But the odds are stacked against you.

On top of this so many people end up losing friends as the result of an MLM.

They might feel pressured into buying something or feel that what they bought was a waste of money, or just get bored of you going on about it all the time. Losing friends is a real risk with any MLM project.

No Repeat Orders

Once you have spent $4000 on a machine you aren’t going to be buying another any time soon. (there is a 3-5 year warranty). So you need to keep on finding new customers and new recruits.

The UDON turmeric products might get you some repeat orders but they do not help you go up a level (the key to making any money). That only happens if you sell the machines.

How many people do you know that would spend 4k on a water purifier. If you know some would you feel happy selling them one knowing they could get more or less the same product on Amazon for way cheaper?

I just don’t think this is a good way to make money.

Luckily I know a way better way to make money online. It was the program that took me from dreaming about making money online to actually doing it.

I love it because:

  • You can start for free
  • It is completely ethical
  • You do not need to sell to friends and family

You can base your business on whatever you like (let’s be honest, selling water purifiers was never your dream! Even if it is, this training will show you how to do it profitably!)

I had no idea where to start with an online business, but this training has shown me step-by-step what to do.

Is Enagic a Pyramid Scheme? Final Thoughts on my Enagic Review

No, Enagic is not a pyramid scheme but that does not mean that it is a good way to make money.

The products aren’t awful but they are overpriced.

Selling them will be tough and the chances of rising up the ranks are slim.

You need to shell out at least $1980 just to get started and there is a good chance that you will join the 3/4 of people that make no money or lose money from an MLM.

I don’t recommend that you join Enagic, but if you have please let me know how you got on in the comments below.
